To fill the spools of his reels for carp fishing, one can primarily use either nylon or braid. Nylon is the most accessible, it is smoother thus casts further, and its elasticity helps to mitigate any mistakes made during the fight. In return at long distance the mastery of the fish is less assured, one should definitely not use nylon when fishing near obstacles for example. Finally, nylon wears out, it is advised to change it 2x per year when fishing every week, once a year otherwise. Conversely, braid allows control of the fish as it is very low stretch, but forgives less mistakes at the end of the fight, you need to adjust your drag well. The braid hardly wears out, it lasts several years, as long as its surface is not visually damaged. It also allows easy cutting of grass if you fish in it. At the start, braids usually float, it is important to know and not start with a new braid in windy conditions or with drifting weeds that will get caught in it, even though this is somewhat mitigated with so-called sinking braids. The 8 strands are rounder, they cast a little further than the 4 strands, which are preferred in the weeds as they cut more easily, if the manufacturer indicates nothing it is generally a 4 strands. Lead lines are also important for carp and are usually made of nylon. However, in case of risk of snagging, they should only be used if you have a boat, otherwise you will leave 5 to 10 meters of line on the spot when you break. The lead line serves to be able to withstand the violence of the cast if the line of your reel is not strong enough, and also serves to prevent breaking if the bottoms are very aggressive, for example in case of an environment colonized by dreissenid mussels, only 0.70 or 0.90 mm resist, to be put on about ten meters just above the base line. In any case, Fox nylons, Nash nylons, or Korda braids are available on pecheur.com with free delivery.
