The SLX DC XT is the flagship model of the very popular SLX series. Equipped with Shimano's most advanced i-DC5 Intelligent Digital Control braking system and a low-inertia MGL III spool, it maximizes casting performance for all lure sizes, including ultra-light sizes.
If you want to benefit from the unique performance of a baitcasting reel combined with the casting ease and versatility of a spinning reel, the SLX DC XT should be at the top of your list. Perfectly capable of casting a wide variety of lures, this technical masterpiece has a hidden versatility and really comes into its own with lighter lures; it enables precise, effortless casts that rival specialized BFS (Bait Finesse System) reels.
The combination of the low-inertia MGL III spool and the i-DC5 digital cast control is at the heart of this remarkable versatility. The spool is ultra-light, and when loaded with lighter braid or mono, it spins with silky smoothness and ease to maximize distance. But the real secret lies in the exclusive i-DC5 system. It allows you to set the brake according to the type of line you use and also the size of the lure, from large lures to finesse lures (without added friction), thus offering fantastic automatic control.
Inside the HAGANE aluminum body (with ultra-light CI4+ side plates) is a combination of Micro Module Gear and X-SHIP. This produces the unmatched smoothness associated with Shimano baitcasting reels and enough power to take on the largest freshwater predators. The easy-to-adjust star drag is equipped with Cross Carbon drag washers, so you never lose control when extra pressure is required. From ultra-light lures to medium-sized hardbaits and crankbaits, the SLX DC XT is a truly versatile tool for serious predator anglers.

• Lightweight HAGANE body constructed from aluminum and CI4+
• Micromodule gearing and X-SHIP to deliver ultra-smooth performance
• Advanced i-DC5 brake (Intelligent Digital Control)
• Low-inertia MGL III spool for casting ultra-light lures
• S3D spool to reduce vibration during casts
• Cross carbon drag for extra power

How to choose your Shimano SLX reel

Size 151 or 71?
The 71 are mainly used for light fishing: black bass, perch and zander primarily, or pike with lures that don't pull much and under 45 gr.
Size 151 is a classic baitcasting reel recommended for fishing with lures from about 20 to 80 grams.

Which model?

SLX A 151: entry-level model with VBS spool adjustment (weight adjustment).

SLX A 71: first model in the range with SVS adjustment (weights + external adjustment from 1 to 6). This technology allows fine-tuning of settings. It also benefits from the lightweight MGL III spool.

SLX XT 151 A: first model in the range in size 151 with SVS adjustment (weights + external adjustment from 1 to 6). This technology allows fine-tuning of settings.

SLX DC 71: DC entry-level size 71, Digital Control technology (digital brake to avoid backlashes and cast further), with the IDC4 processor.

SLX DC 151: DC entry-level size 151, Digital Control technology, IDC4 processor.

SLX XT DC 71: higher-end DC model thanks to the IDC5 processor. In addition, it benefits from the MGL III spool.

Some models are also available in HG and XG versions, indicating the gear ratio: you retrieve more line per handle turn with an HG, and even more with an XG. A high ratio is ideal for fishing that keeps line in the water during action (upstream casting / jerks) but conversely they are less comfortable with lures that resist retrieval (spinners, crankbaits, etc.).
