Topwater stickbait for active sea bass and predator fishing

Designed to cover water quickly and trigger spectacular strikes, the Z-PIVOT 120 is a compact (12 cm) and dense (30 g) topwater stickbait that casts far, even into the wind. Its handling is immediate: it comes alive in a steady walk-the-dog, with wide, fluid zigzags, and remains stable in chop. At a more nervous pace, it "slides" laterally and leaves a pronounced wake that awakens following fish.

Long-distance casts: 30 g size optimized to reach offshore chases and sweep large areas from the shore.

Easy to animate: clean "walk-the-dog" right from the first rod twitches; performs in calm sea as well as in rougher conditions.

Shore/boat versatility: wind-swept spots, rocky points, beaches, estuaries, breakwaters, rocky headlands, flats.

Effective on wary fish: accepts long pauses and cadence variations that trigger hesitant follows.

When and how to use it

Sea bass: early/late in the day, active tides, visible chases, or to entice fish holding mid-water to rise.

Key retrieves:

Continuous walk-the-dog (rod high) to prospect and detect activity.

Stop-and-go (pauses of 1–3 s) to let the wake work and provoke the strike.

Short, sharp series (rod lower) to make it dive a few centimetres and pick off finicky fish.

Targets: sea bass, bonitos/frigate tunas in chase, pollack, and in freshwater pike in summer over shallow banks and weedbeds.

Setup & gear recommendations

Rod: 2,30–2,70 m, 10–40 g power, fast tip action to set the cadence and hook at distance.

Reel: 3000/4000, ratio ~6:1 to keep the pace and recover line against the wind.

Braid: PE 1.0–1.5 (≈ 12–20 lb); leader 30–40 lb in fluoro (or nylon if you want more flexibility on the surface).

Knot: Rapala-style loop (or sturdy mini-clip) to free the amplitude of the zigzag.
