The Surf Leader Ci4+ is a reel specialized for long-distance surfcasting with an ultra-shallow spool. Designed to be used with fine braid or monofilament and a leader, it is perfect for surfcasting from beaches where using a large line diameter is not necessary.

With a name like Surf Leader, there is no doubt about this reel's purpose. If you are looking for a surfcasting reel to fish with braid, this is the one you need. With a very shallow spool (0.20mm - 250m), the Surf Leader reel is ideal for surfcasting on uncluttered ground where low line diameters are necessary to gain sensitivity. But if you need an increase in retrieve power, you can be sure that the 3.5:1 ratio will be only one turn of the handle.

The Surf Leader Ci4+ is intended to offer casting performance with light lines, and the combination of the lightweight Ci4+ construction, the parallel body, slow oscillation, and the AR-C spool provides excellent casting distance performance. However, this reel is not lightweight when it comes to strength. The HAGANE gearing and X-SHIP system combine to ensure smooth and powerful winding and, even though you will probably never use the 20 kg drag that this reel can produce, it is good to know that you can lock the spool to prevent it from slipping during casts. It is also worth noting that the Surf Leader benefits from Shimano's best water protection in the form of X-Protect, making it completely safe for use in saltwater.
