Feeder cages are the central element among all the
feeder fishing gear, for placing the groundbait and attracting fish — so central that the technique took its name: feeder fishing!
Feeders come in different categories, shapes and sizes depending on the fishing you’re targeting:
‑ Round feeder for stillwater
‑ Square feeder for current or slopes
‑ Open or closed plastic feeder to hold maggots longer
‑ Long‑distance feeder with weight at its end, etc.
Of course, beyond the shape, you’ll need to choose the weight; remember that rod power is expressed with the weight of the
empty feeder — for example, a 30 g feeder will be perfect for a 20‑40 g rod. There are also several sizes (diameters) at the same weight; for example, for precise winter fishing it’s recommended to choose the smallest possible size to avoid over‑feeding fish, whereas in peak season on rivers the largest diameter feeder is advised.
