The 'John Weight' lead weight is a little quick trick to rapidly change the swimming depth of a lure of the type (minnow, jerkbait, big bait, swimbait, turlutte). With its 'fragmentation grenade' shape, the pattern of its checkered shell helps hold the stainless steel pin and thus minimizes the risk of losing your weight during casting, during retrieves, or while fighting the fish.
