A lifelong fascination with fish has given Tomy an unrivaled understanding of their behavior. Whether keeping fish in aquariums, diving with wild fish, or fishing for them, Tomy became obsessed with developing artificial baits that better mimic the natural food of predatory fish.
First created in 2015, Tomy's Original Perch may be his most famous lure. Developed to imitate a small perch, which in most places is an important part of predatory fish diets. The Original Perch illustrates Tomy's attention to detail in the pursuit of the most realistic design possible. Pushing the boundaries of handmade lure design through continuous development, the Original Perch now sits at the pinnacle of lure design.
The dynamic shape of the Original Perch was then refined by adding external fins to give it a more lifelike appearance. Combined with the incredibly realistic hand-painted finish, the Original Perch proved irresistible to predatory fish from the start, and its reputation grew internationally as the design evolved and was adopted by lure anglers in the know".
The upturned paddle-tail design of the Original Perch has become a hallmark of Tomy lures and gives them a unique action. Not only does the tail design give the lure a unique and realistic movement, but it also flutters at slow speeds, including during free fall when the retrieve is paused.
