The Tyrnos and the Tyrnos II (2-speed) are among Shimano's fastest lever-drag conventional reels, with extra-wide gears and an extended handle length for increased torque generation. For more versatility, the larger sizes are also available in an optional 2-speed (II) version, with enormous retrieve power.
The larger 2-speed Tyrnos (II) models are the perfect reels if you fish for very large fish in the deep oceans. In their fastest configuration, they can retrieve bottom rigs at a speed of 115 cm per turn of the handle, but by simply pressing a button they transform into formidable hauling machines, capable of bringing up the largest fish or the biggest sharks. However, if you are looking for something lighter to use for jigging, lighter bottom fishing or trolling large specimens in freshwater, look at the smaller single-speed versions, which are just as fast, can hold huge amounts of line (monofilament or braid) and will give you a lifetime of trouble-free enjoyment and use.
The Tyrnos is tough enough to take everything saltwater can throw at it. Built on a solid aluminium frame, with 4 A-RB (rust-resistant) bearings, extra-wide stainless steel gears, an aluminium handle with an oversized rubber knob, and enormous drag power, it's a serious reel. The 2-speed models have gears that engage continuously for a smooth transition and all models are equipped with an ultra-loud clicker brake, as well as a ratchet lever that engages reassuringly when set. An additional adjustment knob lets you fine-tune the preset resistance for the bite or the maximum resistance during fights, ensuring everything is perfectly set when the fight begins.
