The freespool reel for fishing carp offers the advantage of being able to leave the spool free while waiting for the bite, and to block the spool (with the resistance of the brake previously chosen) simply by reeling. Disadvantages are an additional mechanism that induces weight and some weakness. However, they are often reserved for beginners, because the fisherman quickly becomes used to braking his spool by hand during the bite, and to gradually tighten the fighting drag. Some brands have succeeded, however, in offering long distance spools on a freespool reel: Shimano, Daiwa, Prowess, Mitchell, Dam, Mad, Quantum Radical, Okuma.
