The jig is a lure that has successfully been repurposed by pike fishers, indeed, this lure is much more used as a
black bass jig.
To define, here we are talking about a
rubber jig, that is to say a lead head equipped with a silicone thread skirt which give volume during movements given to the lure. You can fish without adding anything but putting a soft
trailer lure on the jig's single hook will provide more volume and vibration. Very traditionally a small shad will be suitable, but a crayfish or a lure with a double tail will provide great vibrations without slowing down the descent to the bottom too much.
This lure is ideal for dropping along trees or submerged bushes, and thus provoking predatory fish, especially if the jig is equipped with a weedless system that will prevent some hooks. A jig can also be used in traction, in other words by dropping the lure near the bottom, and either hit the bottom while retrieving (bottom tapping) or just going above it. In any case, you will have to make rod tips to make the soft skirt twitch, otherwise you miss the main interest of the rubber jig.
The
swim jig, as its name indicates, involves animating the lure with the reel, these rubber jigs are sometimes designed with blades, and a ring placed closer to the lead head. The most famous will be the
Phenix swim jigs, or the
Gunki jigs.
