the mangrove crab, also called the mangrove swimming crab, is a species of the family portunidae. it is found throughout the tropical waters of australia, africa and asia. it prefers soft, muddy sea bottoms and the species often lives in estuaries and mangroves. it is a large crab with a characteristic green and brown coloration. adult specimens feed on crustaceans, invertebrates and smaller gastropods. it is a very popular species in the indo-pacific.
