The bluefin tuna is a large migratory fish of the mackerel family (Scombridae). It is found in the waters of the western and eastern Atlantic Ocean, as well as the Mediterranean Sea. The species can reach more than 900 kg and about 4 meters in length. It is characterized by its fusiform and highly aerodynamic shape, as well as by the most advanced thermoregulation system of all bony fish. Like its relatives, the bluefin tuna is an excellent predator, feeding mainly on small fish and squid. Worldwide, the bluefin tuna is threatened with extinction and is currently one of the most endangered fish species.
