The Chinook salmon, or Quinnat salmon, is an emblematic member of the salmon family. It originates from the cold waters of the Pacific and is found from northern California up to Alaska. The species has also been introduced into the Great Lakes and is a prized species among North American anglers and chefs worldwide. The Quinnat salmon is known for its long migrations back to its natal waters to spawn, during which it changes color, going from silver to an olive-brown or reddish-brown hue. Shortly after spawning, the Quinnats meet their final days in their natal waterways.
