The southern squid, or southern reef squid (Sepioteuthis australis), is a common member of the family Loliginidae (pencil squids or seiche-milaines). You can find it in coastal waters down to about 10 metres deep in sandy or seagrass areas of the subtropical Indo-Pacific region. Like its cousins, the cuttlefish, octopuses and other squids, the southern squid is an excellent predator and can change colour.
