Adults can reach 50cm in length and can weigh up to 1kg. They are nomadic fish that live in schools. They feed on crustaceans, plankton and small fish. Besides being a popular species among fishermen, the Mackerel is an important fish in the economy of several countries. It is also a sought-after species for its taste and its high concentration of omega-3 fatty acids and vitamin B12.
