The coral trout (Plectropomus Leopardus), or leopard coral grouper, is a magnificently colored member of the family Serranidae. It is found near coastal reefs at depths of 3 to 100 meters in the western Pacific waters from Japan to Australia as well as in Malaysia and on the east coast of Thailand. It is a large and formidable predator, reaching about 120 cm and feeding on fish and crustaceans. The species is highly prized by sport anglers and the commercial fishing industry.
