The tench is a species of the carp family (cyprinidae) and is found in most waterways of Europe, including England. The species prefers calm, warm waters with plenty of vegetation. They can measure up to 70cm and weigh around 7kg. The tench has a rather stocky body and pronounced fins. It feeds on insects and invertebrates. The species is highly sought after by anglers because it is considered the most beautiful of the cyprinids.
