Sea trout (Salmo trutta m. trutta) is an anadromous trout of the Salmonidae family that is closely related to the Atlantic salmon. The species is endemic to the Atlantic Ocean, the North Sea and the Baltic Sea, spending the majority of its life at sea. Adults return to fresh water only to spawn. The juveniles develop in rivers and head to the sea as they mature. The sea trout is a predatory fish that feeds on invertebrates and fish. The species is highly prized by anglers, but it is threatened by habitat destruction and changes to river systems caused by the construction of dams.
