Feeder groundbaits are at the heart of feeder fishing, attracting fish to your rig and increasing your chances of bites. Feeder groundbaits have the particularity of being stickier than a classic groundbait so they can withstand casts and reach the bottom without loss in the water column. However, if you’re fishing at short range and in shallow water, you can use a classic groundbait, possibly adding a bit of PV1 flour which is sticky. Depending on the technique, you can definitely vary the composition and choice of groundbaits, for example by mixing a roach groundbait and feeder groundbait if you’re targeting that species, or a bream/feeder mix, or even carp groundbait for big fish. There are also “method mix” groundbaits — sticky and nutritious for targeting carp, whether method or feeder — and they are often enriched with pellets to resist small fish.
Whatever groundbait you choose, here’s how to also select the right
method feeder and the right
feeder cage.
